Pricing & payment

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms depend on how far in advance you cancel. Full details are provided at the time of booking, so please review them before confirming your reservation.

Is there a security deposit?

Yes. A refundable security deposit is required before pickup. The amount varies by vehicle type and rental duration. It is returned after the vehicle is inspected at the end of your rental, provided there is no damage.

Is insurance included?

Insurance is mandatory and is charged on top of the rental rate. You may instead purchase your own coverage and provide proof before pickup.

What are the mileage limits?

Each rental includes 300 km per day of your trip. Additional kilometres are $0.50 each.

Do you offer off-season pricing?

For an early spring or late autumn trip, contact us directly. We may be able to offer special off-season pricing.

Do you offer discounts for longer trips?

Yes. Rentals of two weeks or longer receive 10% off.

What taxes apply?

Taxes depend on the province where the rental takes place. Alberta: 5% GST. British Columbia: 5% GST and 7% PST.

How much does a rental cost?

Pricing is seasonal. Summer pricing (May 15 to September 30) starts at $329 CAD per day. Winter pricing (October 1 to May 14) starts at $199 CAD per day. All prices are shown before tax.

Vehicles, camping gear, & experience

Can I rent in winter?

Yes. Winter pricing runs October 1 to May 14. We offer heated trucks and premium vehicles with winter tires for year-round camping. Contact us to confirm the best vehicle for your dates.

Are the tents waterproof, and are they safe in bad weather?

Yes. Rooftop tents, truck campers and canopy campers are fully waterproof and built for rain and moderate wind. Being elevated off the ground helps keep you dry. As with any camping equipment, follow the safety guidelines provided during severe weather.

Do I need camping or rooftop tent experience?

No. You only need to be able to drive a vehicle and follow our instructions. The campers are designed to be easy to use, and we give a full walkthrough at pickup. Most guests, including first-timers, are comfortable setting up and packing down after a short demonstration.

Are sleeping bags and bedding provided?

Sleeping bags, pillows and bedding are included for a standard two-person rental. Bedding for additional guests (up to five) may be available depending on the rental package and season. You are welcome to bring your own. Bedding is chosen to suit Canadian weather.

How many people can the camper sleep?

Most vehicles comfortably sleep four adults. Some models sleep only two adults and one child. Capacity depends on the camper installed on your vehicle. All sleeping areas have a built-in mattress and are designed for safe, elevated sleeping.

What camping and cooking gear is included?

Typically: camp chairs, a table, a stove, cookware, utensils, dishes, basic food-prep items and basic cleaning supplies. Many vehicles also include a fridge or cooler and food storage. Exact gear lists vary by vehicle and season.

What is included with my rental?

Every rental includes the vehicle, a professionally installed rooftop tent (or truck or canopy camper), and essential camping gear. Most rentals also include a camping kitchen, chairs, a table, and basic recovery and safety gear, so you can travel without bringing your own equipment.

Pickup, drop-off, & getting to Canada

How do I get to Vancouver Island?

You will take a BC Ferries crossing from the mainland. Review routes and schedules in advance and book early, especially in peak summer. Overheight vehicles and trailers need advance reservations, and space can be limited during busy periods. See bcferries.com for routes, schedules and bookings.

How do I get to Canada and to my pickup point?

Most international guests fly into YVR or YYC. From there, our concierge service hands over your vehicle at the airport so you can start your trip right away.

Do you offer airport pickup?

Yes. Most international guests arrive at Vancouver International (YVR) or Calgary International (YYC). We meet you at the airport with your vehicle ready, so there are no rental counters and no waiting. We also monitor arrivals so your vehicle is ready when you land. Airport pickup at other locations may be available on request.

Can I pick up in one city and return in another?

One-way rentals may be available between select locations, depending on availability and scheduling. Additional fees may apply.

Where can I pick up my rental?

Vehicles are available for pickup and drop-off across British Columbia and Alberta. In BC, the main hub is Overland Outfitters in Surrey (details below). Pickup is also available in other hubs such as Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna. In Alberta, pickup is in Calgary and surrounding areas, with direct access to the Canadian Rockies.

Driving rules & road conditions

Can I take the vehicle on Vancouver Island?

Yes, including by ferry. Ferry fees are the renter's responsibility. Check vehicle height restrictions when booking crossings.

Can I cross provincial or international borders?

Travel between British Columbia and Alberta is permitted. International crossings, including into the United States, require prior approval and additional documentation. Always confirm with us before your trip.

Can I drive on forest service roads?

Yes, on maintained gravel and forest service roads when conditions are safe.

Are the vehicles 4x4, and can I go off-road?

All rental vehicles have 4x4 or AWD and are suitable for highways, mountain passes, gravel roads, forest service roads and light off-road travel. Extreme off-roading, rock crawling and unsafe terrain are not permitted. Always follow local road regulations and your rental guidelines.

Camping in British Columbia

Will rain be a problem in BC?

The tents are fully waterproof and designed for rain. Coastal and mountain weather can change quickly, so pack for wet and variable conditions.

When is the best time to camp in BC?

March through November is most popular, when the weather is mild and most campsites and backcountry roads are accessible.

Do I need permits or reservations for camping in BC?

Some provincial parks and recreation areas require advance reservations or permits, especially in peak summer. Securing them is the renter's responsibility. Reserve at camping.bcparks.ca. We recommend booking campsites and accommodations well in advance.

Is wild camping allowed in BC?

Rules vary by area. Crown land camping is allowed in some places, while others require designated campsites or permits. You are responsible for following local regulations and posted restrictions.

Are BC roads suitable for these vehicles?

Yes. The vehicles handle BC highways, mountain passes and forest service roads. Gravel and logging roads are permitted when conditions are safe. Extreme off-road terrain is not.

Where can I travel in BC?

Anywhere in the province: national and provincial parks, coastal highways and interior regions. Popular destinations include Vancouver Island, the Sea-to-Sky corridor, the Okanagan and BC's backcountry.

Camping in Alberta

Is mountain weather a concern?

The tents handle wind, rain and cooler nights. Mountain weather can change rapidly, so be prepared for cold, especially at higher elevations.

When is the best time to camp in Alberta?

April through October is most popular, when mountain roads are fully open and temperatures are ideal.

How do I reserve campsites in Alberta?

Book through Alberta Parks at albertaparks.ca/reservations. Reserve early, especially for summer.

Do I need park passes?

Banff and Jasper require a Parks Canada pass for entry. Provincial parks may require daily or annual passes. Passes are not included with the rental.

Can I use a rooftop tent in Banff and Jasper?

Yes, but overnight camping is only allowed in designated campgrounds. Parks Canada treats rooftop tents the same as other camping setups.

Is wild camping allowed in Alberta?

It is restricted in much of Alberta, especially in national parks. Camping is generally limited to designated campgrounds or approved public land use zones. Follow provincial and federal regulations.

Are Alberta roads suitable for these vehicles?

Yes, on highways, mountain roads and gravel access roads. Seasonal road closures may apply in mountain regions because of weather.

Where can I travel in Alberta?

Throughout the province, including Banff and Jasper National Parks, Kananaskis Country and the Badlands, on highways, park roads and approved gravel roads.

What if the vehicle breaks down?

Roadside assistance and support are available. You will be given contact information and instructions so problems can be resolved as quickly as possible.

Who do I contact if I need help?

You will receive a dedicated support number for your rental period. We can help with vehicle questions, equipment use and unexpected issues anywhere in Western Canada.
